In an industry pushed to unsustainable pricing by illegal labor, we chose honesty and fair pricing, then turned it into a standard — so we can help more people grow, and take the business to more regions and countries.
Why we chose honesty
Shane Services didn't start out planning to do cleaning.
In the early days, with no experience, the most common answer we got when trying to hire someone was: “go ask your mom.” This industry was never polite — it's blue-collar to the bone, and if you had no track record, you were expected to be looked down on.
It got harder from there. The market was flooded with undocumented workers and off-the-books domestic helpers undercutting prices to a level nobody could sustain. The murkiness of this trade isn't just about dishonest practices — even the price of staying in business had been wrecked.
It was in that environment that, just six months after founding the company, we landed our first government contract — with almost no resources, built entirely on “don't cheat people, just work honestly.” We made mistakes too: we opened a noodle shop, lost money, and closed it immediately rather than dragging it out. What we learned — admitting a loss is fine; what matters is staying honest and moving forward.
From “go ask your mom” to contracts with university dormitories and consulates.
Five years on, our team has grown to nearly 50 people, covering every district in Hong Kong. What we're building now is turning that honesty into a company standard — one that doesn't rely on any single person, but on a process and a system that delivers the same result no matter who's doing the work, without racing anyone to the bottom.
Once that standard is solid, we want to help more people grow, and take this same approach to more regions and countries.
