How to Choose a Cleaning Company: 8 Practical Checks to Avoid Getting Burned

There's no shortage of cleaning companies in Hong Kong, with prices ranging from a few hundred to several thousand dollars and scopes that vary wildly. Spend a few minutes checking these 8 things before booking, and you'll save yourself a lot of trouble.

1. Does the quote cover every step?

Watch out — “full home cleaning” means different things to different companies. Some only cover floors, toilets, and kitchen surfaces; others include walls, window tracks, and under furniture. Ask exactly what's included before booking — don't guess based on the service name alone.

2. How many staff, and how long will it take?

Manpower and time directly affect cleaning quality. A quote with too few staff or too little time may mean steps get skipped. Ask for the expected headcount and hours, and compare against typical market standards (e.g. 2 staff for 3-4 hours for a standard unit).

3. Who provides the cleaning products and equipment?

Some companies include cleaning products in the quote; others expect you to provide your own. If you have young children at home or concerns about chemical ingredients, ask exactly what products will be used.

4. How are extra charges calculated?

No lift access, an especially dirty unit, or the need to move large items — these situations often come with extra charges. Understand the conditions and rough amounts before booking, rather than finding out afterwards.

5. Is there a real way to contact them and check progress after booking?

A legitimate company usually shows clear company details, terms and payment methods, and you can reach it after booking if you have questions. If a company has no visible company information or terms at all, be extra careful. If the entire company is just a web form with no other way to reach them, be extra cautious.

6. Is there a final inspection after the job?

After cleaning is done, you should be able to ask staff to walk through with you and point out anything missed on the spot. Companies confident in their own quality usually offer this.

7. Check how long the company has actually been operating

Hong Kong has plenty of one-person or informal cleaning operations — cheaper, but with less protection. Companies with formal business registration and a longer track record generally give you more recourse if something goes wrong.

8. Compare a few quotes, but don't compare on price alone

The same job can be quoted at wildly different prices by different companies, usually because the scope isn't actually the same. Before booking, describe the exact same scope and requirements to 2-3 companies so you're comparing like for like.

Our quotes clearly state what's included, you see the full price before you book, and our terms are clear.
