How Long After Renovation Should You Clean? A Complete Timeline

Timing matters a lot for post-renovation cleaning. Too early, and the dust from the work hasn't fully settled — you'll quickly need to clean again. Too late, and paint smell, debris, and floor residue only get harder to deal with.

Within 48 hours of finishing renovation: no rush to clean

Right after renovation, dust indoors is still airborne — cleaning immediately has limited effect and may need to be repeated. Open windows to ventilate first and let the main dust settle.

2-3 days after renovation: a good time for an initial clean

By this stage, most dust has settled. You can start an initial clean — clearing large construction debris and wiping away visible surface dust — making it easier to inspect the renovation quality afterwards.

After the renovation is signed off: time for the real deep clean

Once you've confirmed the renovation work is done properly, and before furniture moves in, is the best time for a deep clean — walls, window tracks, floor gaps, and under-furniture areas all done at once, since it's much harder to reach these spots once furniture is in place.

After furniture moves in: don't leave it for last

If cleaning only happens after furniture is already in, many spots (under wardrobes, under sofas) simply can't be reached. Aim to finish at least one deep clean before large furniture arrives.

1-2 months after moving in: worth a follow-up clean

Daily life in the first stretch after moving in brings in new dust and dirt. If you want to maintain the post-renovation cleanliness, consider a follow-up clean 1-2 months after moving in.

Post-renovation cleaning involves removing dust, paint residue, and surface grime — we recommend booking before furniture moves in for the most thorough result.
