Moving
Piano moving: we assess the floors, route and protection first
Moving a piano needs more care than ordinary furniture: weight distribution, protection and route planning. Shane Services first finds out the piano type, size, floors, whether there's a lift, and corridor and stair widths, then assesses whether the move can be arranged, so you don't find out on the day that it won't fit or is easily damaged.

When it's suitable
Upright pianos, digital pianos, large instruments and heavy items that need careful handling. If the piano is moving across districts, up or down stairs, through narrow doors, or needs short-term storage, send us the site details for assessment first.
What we need for a quote
Front and side photos of the piano, the model or approximate size, the general start and end addresses, floors, whether there's a lift, stair width, where the truck can park, and whether it needs to go up or down stairs.
Key points when moving
Piano moves need attention to door frames, floors, wall corners, lift size and turns. Before moving, clear the route of clutter and check parking and the building's moving rules.
When we can't quote straight away
If the piano needs hoisting, moving through a window, has very narrow stairs, or it's a grand piano or similar large instrument, extra assessment is needed; it can't be estimated from ordinary moving prices.
Related services
Piano moving is often arranged together with a home move, furniture disposal or pre-move-in cleaning. If the new home hasn't been cleaned, we suggest a pre-move-in clean before moving in.
FAQ
How many people does a piano move need?▾
It depends on the piano type, weight, floors and route. It generally needs more people and more careful planning than ordinary furniture.
Can you move a piano without a lift?▾
Not always. It depends on the floor, stair width, turns and the piano's weight. Please send photos and site details for assessment first.
Does the piano need tuning before the move?▾
Usually not. Because a move can affect position and cause vibration, you can arrange tuning afterwards if needed.
Is the quote the same for a digital piano and an upright?▾
No. Weight, size and protection differ, so the quote is based on the actual instrument.
Do you wrap and protect it?▾
We can do basic protection before moving as needed, especially for the piano body, corners, door frames and floors.
